Licensure

The Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists has both Registered (Active Practicing) and Non -Registered (Affiliate) memberships.

In the Registered category there are Registered Counselling Therapist – Candidates who, after they have completed the requirements for Candidacy, may be approved as Registered Counselling Therapists.

Registered Counselling Therapist – Candidate (RCT-C) One may apply to be approved as a Registered Counselling Therapist-Candidate if one graduated from a Masters level Counselling Therapy Education program and completed the minimum of a 120 hour supervised practicum as well as fulfilling the other criteria found in the Regulations in Sections 6 and 14. Registered Counselling Therapists have either completed the candidacy requirements as noted above or were Registered Counselling Therapists under the former Nova Scotia Association of Counselling Therapists.

If you are a RCT-C, have completed the candidacy requirements and are ready to apply for full RCT status, you need to contact the Registrar, providing your RCT-C Registration Number, at registrar@nscct.ca. You will be sent the required application form, which you must complete and submit with all documentation required and a $100.00 fee.

In the Non-Registered (Affiliate) Category, the following memberships are available:

  • Associate members support the objectives of the College as found in Section 22 of the Regulations. This category encompasses the former Masters Level, Associate and Charter memberships under NSACT.
  • Retired members are former Registered Counselling Therapists who are no longer practicing. Reference Section 20 of the Regulations.
  • Student members are currently engaged in studies in a Masters level counselling therapy education program. Reference Section 21 of the Regulations.
