The Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT) is seeking a part-time (0.5 FTE) Deputy Registrar/Practice Advisor.
About the NSCCT
The Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT) is the provincial regulator of the profession of counselling therapy. Operating under provincial legislation, the NSCCT ensures that counselling therapists in Nova Scotia practice in a competent, ethical, and safe manner. Key regulatory functions include registration, continuing competence, professional conduct, and the development of practice standards.
Position Overview
This part-time role offers flexible work hours, with most work completed during regular business hours. Occasional evening or weekend availability is required to attend statutory committee and Board meetings. Compensation includes a competitive salary, health benefits and paid vacation.
Reporting to the Executive Director/Registrar, the Deputy Registrar/Practice Advisor supports the delivery of effective policy, operational, and administrative services aligned with the NSCCT’s regulatory, strategic, and operational goals. The role also supports statutory committees in the development of registration requirements and in the assessment of registration applications.
Key Responsibilities
The Deputy Registrar/Practice Advisor is responsible for:
- Registering and licensing applicants who meet established qualifications and criteria
- Supporting registration and licensure processes, including application review, outcome determination, and decision writing
- Supporting the Continuing Competency Program by responding to inquiries from registrants
- Providing individual and group consultation and advisory services to registrants
- Maintaining awareness of emerging trends and developments in the practice of counselling therapy
- Serving as a resource to the Director of Complaints and Professional Conduct
- Supporting regulatory committees through training, resources, and effective communication
- Reviewing existing policies and recommending changes to the Executive Director/Registrar
- Participating in the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, standards, guidelines, and programs
- Ensuring secure file management and maintaining privacy and confidentiality
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, including registrants and educational programs
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Experience with a professional regulatory body (as staff or volunteer), considered an asset
- Knowledge of professional regulation
- Strong ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships
- Excellent communication skills (oral, written, presentation) with strong interpersonal abilities
- Cultural sensitivity
- Sound judgement and discretion
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint
- Ability to manage confidential information with a high degree of judgment and discretion
Requirements
- Holds a Registered Counselling Therapy (RCT) license in good standing
- Eligible for licensure with the NSCCT
